FILIPPO MARCHETTI. SIBYLLINE MUSICIAN AND POET OF THE SOUNDS.
by Laura Linfozzi.

In occasion of the centenary of the disappearance of the composer from Bolognola Filippo Machetti (1831-1902) have been made numerous initiatives; between these have been different those from the associations “Musical Chappel of the Cathedral - University choir of Camerino” and “Ipparco”, that have been presented to the public, with the collaboration of Paolo Cruciani, some concerts of chamber music and the first documentary exhibition never before organized on the musician born in Bolognola, Marchetti studied in the Conservatory of Saint Peter in Majella of Naples and held prestige positions, like the one of president of the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he was very close to the Real House and Master of music of queen Margherite. Between the many successes that he obtained, the most flattering one was the one related to the opera “Ruy Blas”, represented in the main theaters of the world.
The exhibition, organized in the Crivelli room of the Picture-gallery “Girolamo di Giovanni” of Camerino from the 18 to the 28 January 2002, it has achieved an extraordinary success, thanks to the increasing climate of curiosity created around the singular human and artistic figure of this musician.
The interest aroused in the public, critic and media by these events has made necessary the accomplishment of this publication, the first one to date dedicated to Marchetti, made with the suppport of the Foundation Savings Bank of the Province of Macerata: it cannot be defined like a catalogue sic et simplificiter, but like a true monography, that includes studies made in exclusive by musicians (Vicenzo De Gregorio, Francesco Bissoli, Silvio Catalini), historians (Mauro Stramacci, Paolo Cruciani), descendants of the composer (Alessio Marchetti, Filippo Liuti) and by the cultural persons in charge of the Embassy of Romania in Italy (Mihail Constantin Banciu; Marchetti put music in fact to “Song of the Latin Ancestry” with verses of Vasile Alexandri, still interpreted in Romania). It’s a truely exhaustive portrait of the musician and his time, not leaving apart the psychological and human aspects of Marchetti, man of a uncommon kindness and sensitivity. In the ilustrative part will be published all the objects and the manuscripts exposed in the exhibition of Camerino, as well as the rare and unpublished photos of the composer and his relatives.
A publication, therefore, that overwhelms a lagoon in the operistic italian history of the end of the 19th Century, true starting point of later studies on melodrama not only of Marche aims of the 19th Century, that contributes to the way towards the recognition of Filippo Marchetti, protagonist of the artistic scene of their time and until now, like so many other artists wrongly considered “minors”, unjustly forgotten.
